Strep baby...fever and allergic reactions...no fun!

I had to do a short blog about JB's first time being "sick".  Previous to this he has had one stomach bug last February which resulted in Drew and I taking him to the ER at Floyd at about 2 am.  He got some medicine and drank pedialyte and off we went back home at 7am....with no sleep.

This was his first real time being sick and visiting the doc...so a quick post so I can remember what happened!

It all started around dinner time about a week ago..he didn't want to eat, which is rare. I noticed he felt a bit warm but it was hard to tell how warm. When I was getting him ready for bed I took a temp which read 101! So I gave him a little Tylenol got him ready for bed but was still a little worried. I went in to check on him around 1 am. I could tell with only the light of a night light his face was blood red...took another temp 103.7! He was pitaful and red cheeked whining "mama" and hated the cold clothes. I had to get his fever down until the morning. I put him in bed with me and watched him through the night.
The following day the fever was down all day even without Tylenol so I thought it was weird and maybe his body was just fighting something off...but close to bed again it went back up around the 103 range. We did more Tylenol until I could get him to the doc. the following morning.
At the doc he had a fever of only 99 because it had gone back down by morning but was diagnosed with strep...yuck! He hated the test and cried hysterically in his daddy's arms.

We filled the Amoxocillin Rx and home we went with cold foods for his sore throat.
He enjoyed popsicles, yogurt, ice cream...ya know all the healthy things.
All was well until about 7 days into the Rx when he broke out with a rash ALL over his body! He looked rough but didn't seem to be bothered by it. I took him to the doc which we all had to assume it was a penicillin allergy. The doc said she wasn't 100% but had to assume that with the timing....so for now JB is labeled penicillin cautiona until we can determine for sure.

I personally think it is an allergy to the penicillin because the day after I took him off of it, gave him one does of claritin and and oatmeal bath the rash was gone! I would hate for him to have this allergy but glad nothing scary happened because every reaction to penicillin can be different sometimes they can become more or less severe with each additional dose. His was not the critical one because it was not immediate but rather presented itself after 7 days.

Happy even with strep (headed home from the doc)
